Welcome

Key Issues

Recreational fishers have made both significant and substantial financial contributions to the following environmental initiatives. Not one cent has ever been contributed by any other so called “green group.”
ECOfishers are justifiably proud of our environmental credentials and achievements.
The following are just some of ECOfishers environmental initiatives. ECOfishers, - working with the community for positive environmental outcomes! “Healthy habitats = Healthy fisheries. Ken Thurlow CEO.

  4. Bangalow Sewage T.P. 31.5.07
  5. Ballina High
  6. Manyweathers Weir 8.07
  7. Rocky Mouth Rehab – Media 8.10.
Without ECOfishers support, there is nil chance of securing $30,000 for these works. So there are 30,000 reasons, for your Club to affiliate with ECOfishers.
We do all the negotiating, all the travelling, all the meetings, all the wheeling and dealing, write all the letters, send all the faxes and emails, make all the phone calls etc, that fishers want done. Yet they are reluctant to contribute funds to ECOfishers. Why? How about it? When fishers support ECOfishers, fishers win!

Environmental Achievements

Improving fish passage in Tucki Tucki Creek
Tucki Tucki Creek barrier removal.
ECOfishers NSW proffers our enthusiastic support for the Tucki Tucki Creek barrier removal project.
Tucki Tucki Creek is a favourite Bass habitat and haunt and is one of the sites stocked by local recreational fishers.
The removal of the culvert by Lismore City Council will increase the carrying capacity of this creek, by making the culvert a “fish friendly structure.”
The project site is also a popular picnic spot and one of the public access points along the creek for recreational fishers.
Community groups are also adding to the existing riparian vegetation, which also enhances this particular Bass habitat. The project site is also a popular platypus viewing site for the community.
This project comes highly recommended for funding, by ECOfishers and is deserving of your thorough deliberations, considerations and support, for it will enhance an already favourite Bass fishing site, for northern rivers fishers.
Regards and best wishes,
Ken Thurlow
 CEO ECOfishers NSW.

INTRODUCING ECOFISHERS - THE Voice of NSW Recreational Fishers
You’ve heard our slogan –“Conservation through sustainable use. Making people part of the solution.”

We fish sustainably and work closely with governments to achieve sustainable outcomes for the community and the resource.

ECOfishers is a state-wide, community based family fishing organisation. We are all recreational fishers and scientists.ECOfishers refute the extreme Green anti-fishing “preservation policy” of locking family fishers out and throwing away the key.Nor do we support the exclusion of low-impact family recreational fishing, from government’s so-called “sanctuary zones.”
That is simply an emotive term.

The CSIRO says about sanctuary zones, “Their potential fisheries benefits are theoretical and have not been demonstrated in practice!”

So-called sanctuary zones “Are not appropriate for the vast majority of recreational targeted species. They are migratory and far too mobile to remain within any sanctuary zones.”They’ve got tails. They swim!

ECOfishers recently represented you in the grey nurse shark court case brought on by the Government funded, extreme Green Nature Conservation Council.

The Greens are demanding of the NSW Labor Government, “That up to 50 percent of the State’s marine waters be locked up in sanctuaries by 2010!”

ECOfishers is your lobby group.
We are dedicated to ensuring your family fishing way of life is not further eroded by the extremists

.
ECOfishers representations are based upon sound science and reality, not Green myths.

Ecofishers is not a political party nor aligned with any political party.
Our alignment is for the rights and responsibilities of recreational fishers.
We are totally committed to you and preserving your rights.

ECOfishers needs you, to help us, help you!
For if we all continue to do nothing then nothing will change.

Politicians don’t understand ecology. They only understand numbers – numbers of fishers who vote!

We need you to join ECOfishers, to swell our numbers. You cannot afford NOT to belong. Your rights are at stake.

ECOfishers represents you at local, state and federal government levels.

Join now. It’s the best $10 you will ever spend. For when fishers support ECOfishers, fishers win!

Your whole fishing club can be affiliated for $150!

Don't let this be a thing of the past
