Fishers unite. Your future is at stake. Let's focus on the things we agree upon. Any more starters?

Government marine parks, imposed upon the community is a big starting point. And there are two more to come by 2010, to honour an agreement with the Greens.

The politicians have every reason to keep recreational fishers divided. Imagine the impact we could have on the Green extremists and political outcomes if we were united about an issue. Even if 500,000 recreational fishers in NSW all exercised their democratic right and voted the one way, there is enough power there to change governments. And the pollies know it too! So why wouldn't they like to keep us divided? But we don't have to be. Remember the old saying, "United we stand. Divided we fall." The pollies play on that.

ECOfishers would prefer to unite the fishers. Then the political parties would be coming to us!

The journey to "unity" has started. Only in a small way yet, but it is the first step along a long road. We acknowledge we wont always agree about everything but those things we do agree about, will form the basis for a united front for recreational fishers right across the state. Big things start with small steps. Two more fihing groups are seriously considering joining ECOfishers. They are impressed with our achievements, policies and directions. Why wouldnt they be. ECOfishers is all about "conservation through sustainable use and making people part of the solution." Fishers elected to represent fishers. No "appointments" in ECOfishers. BECOME PART OF A UNITED FRONT! You can even join on-line, here on our website.

As expected, the Feds have put $2 million on the table to establish and fund a revised Federal government Recreational Fishing Advisory body. This initiative is long overdue and was promised after sustained criticism of the previous funding arrangements, where one group claiming to represent NSW recreational fishers got all the funds. And recreational fishers were never able to democratically or representatively elect any delegates to that mob. Somehow, someone appointed them. Thankfully, all that is about to change. ECOfishers will be in there for you, fighting for your representative share of the cake. It looks like being divided many ways instead of just one. Breakthrough!

This announcement is an acknowledgement that previous funding arrangements were un representative and inequtable. It wasn't difficult to establish!
