The Marine Park Advisory Council meeting referred to by the 'Belle of Balmain', was supposed to take place in February 2008. Whom did recreational fishers elect to represent them on that Council? The State's recreational fishers have had no contact whatsoever from the recreational fishers' representative on the Marine Park Advisory Council, nor do they know whom to contact!!! How can the Minister's appointee represent recreational fishers on this issue when he/she hasn't got a clue what he/she is talking about.

ARTIFICIAL STRUCTURES
The waters in Byron Bay are already littered with artificial structures. There are the remains of the whaling station, the remnants of two meatworks, a blood pipe, pylons and parts of two long jetties, two steam cranes off the jetty demolished by the '54 cyclone, a number of sunken fishing trawlers, the SS Wollongbar (sunk in 1927) and the 'Tassie III', and now a light aircraft which still hasn't been located. These artificial structures were favourite fishing sites for locals. And all these artificial structures are locked up in so-called government sanctuary zones. Locals know all this History - green blow-ins haven't got a clue. So you can see artificial structures don't constitute an impediment to a government marine park. They just locked them all up without even knowing they were there. And the Greens babble on about the pristine waters of The Bay. If only they knew.

STINKING RESPONSE
We are now advised the NSW Minister for Fisheries has appointed 'Stinker' Clark to represent the state's 1,000,000 recreational fishers on the government's Marine Park Advisory Council. Who elected him? Why did he get appointed to represent fishers? Does he reflect his own views or the views of recreational fishers at these meetings? Another reason why ACoRF desperately needs restructuring.
