Marine Park economic impact: Last year they blamed fuel prices. This year they are blaming the floods.!! Byron Bay doesn't flood!! Nevertheless, the Chamber of Conmerchants, recognises there is a serious economic downturn, ever since the government's marine park was gazetted. And locals don't help either. They castigate the marine park publicly, at every opportunity they get .... and that is daily. 6000 locals opposed the governments imposition. 325 greeniy supporters supported it. So it was imposed upon the locals against their will. They will never support it. That's why it isn't working and wont ever. Now the tourist mob are squealing. They are going broke. I wonder what excuse they will come up with next year? And Port Macquarie has had two bumper tourist seasons  in a row. All because they HAVEN'T got a government marine park. ECOfishers is aware of dozens of families, from the New England Tablelands, that traditionally came to Byron Bay for their Xmas fishing holidays, now go to Port Macquarie. They simply take their tourist dollars elsewhere.
Note in the tourist mob's media release, they DON'T refer to the government'smarine park? They simply refer to the "Julian Rocks  Marine Reserve." "It doesn't exist!!  There is no such Reserve. Never was! It'a all bloody marine park sanctuary zone. Curious isn't it. It is almost as if the tourist mob are frightened to say "marine park," in their mediai release!!
