So 161 marine scientists signed a document seeking marine reserves! Big deal. What about the tens of thousands of marine scientists world wide that signed absolutely nothing. Doesn't matter anyway because it is just a collective opinion, not hard facts.

FOLKS, the 1997 "Consensus Statement," by 161 scientists, (The Greens frequently add another zero to that number!) called for, "20% of the marine environment to be protected from OVER EXPLOITATION OF SPECIES,? PHYSICAL ALTERATION OF ECOSYSTEMS,? POLLUTION,? INTRODUCTION OF ALIEN SPECIES,? AND GLOBAL ATMOSPHERIC CHANGE." ? ? ? ? Now, the Greens got it all wrong again!? There is no over exploitation of species in NSW! ( NSW Fisheries Chief Scientist statement 7/06) ? ? ? ? Physical alteration of ecosystems MAY occur via commercial bottom trawling. (not recreational fishing!) ? ? ? ? Pollution: Labor's marine parks do nothing, absolutely nothing, to control or reduce pollution. In fact they lock the pollution in and lock the community out! ? ? ? ? Introduction of alien species.? Labor's zones and lines on maps have no impact whatsoever on alien species! ? ? ? ? Global Atmospheric Change:? ?Ditto.? As above. Labor's marine parks are absolutely useless in managing global atmospheric change. And these are the issues that the Greenies point to and cite, (the 1997 "Consensus Statement") when asked to produce documentary evidence of the scientific justification for Labor's marine parks. What wankers!? They and the Labor government, still think recreational fishers are all second class citizens!? ? ? ?Tarki

Tarki, I agree about 'world renowned'. I added those details on the grounds of 'know your enemy'? This smacks of the Goldcoast two that tried to have Channel 9 stop fishing reports. Its amazing that after 9 years there appears to be NO UPDATE. Has science stopped???

KEN; There is no ecological, scientific, environmental, economic or social necessity, behind Labor's NSW marine parks. Only an agreement between the Greens and Labor, for preferences in the Upper House. Labor governments across Australia have sold us out for a handful of Green preferences! That's why Australia has 30% of the workld's marine parks and America, (250 million people) has only 2.6% It is all a gigantic con and needs to be exposed as such. We as recreational fishers are the bunnies - because we are not organised. They think they can treat us like second class citizens. Tarki

Just sent the following to Alan Jones ---------------------------------------------------------- Alan,
You might like to pose the following questions on marine parks in NSW in your follow ups.
Bob Debus claims ?massive amounts of scientific research? are available in support of marine park sanctuaries.
We find it interesting that here on the Central Coast of NSW (Bouddi Marine National Park) is a no take sanctuary which has existed for some 20 plus years but there is no freely available study on its effectiveness. (We?ve searched the internet and rung Fisheries at The Entrance office with our query and received no call in return).
There is allegedly one short survey which was done over a two month period which found that luderick (travelling fish) schooled there during the ?snapshot? survey. This merely confirmed old fishers? tales that that was the time to fish there and besides the survey located the largest groper (residential fish) outside the boundary of the Park.
I find it amazing that Debus quotes so called proof from ?elsewhere? when we have on Sydney?s doorstep something directly applicable to NSW.
I pose this question.
Does Bouddi Marine National Park give proof that so called ?no take sanctuaries? are merely introduced to buy green preferences???
Or are Labor so incompetent that they have not done any research on local sanctuaries particularly those Debus referred to in Parliament in answer to a question without notice on 26th September 2006 by Mr Alex McTaggart.
I quote Mr Debus ? ?.that the Government has no plans at all to create a marine park in the Hawkesbury bioregion. The reason is quite simple: there are already a great many aquatic and other marine reserves in this area. In fact, there are 27, and a lot of them were declared some time ago. There are also 9 inter-title areas within the bioregion that are now fully protected. With that degree of marine protection it is obvious that there is already a high degree of conservation of the marine environment in this area.?
Mr Debus has, in his own words, either demonstrated that he and his Government are incompetent by not quoting from local research to justify marine parks or Debus has mislead Parliament and has NO knowledge of the degree of ?protection? he claimed.
IS IT NO WONDER THAT ONE MILLION NSW RECREATIONAL FISHERS DON'T BELIEVE LABOR OR THE GREENS.
Yours sincerely, Ken Bond Secretary, Central Coast Recreation Conservation and ECOfishers Inc

IAN, I'll swap you the first bumper sticker on the south coast (No one there wants them, I've been told) for a piece of Red Emperor. So I'll be in touch. Tarki.

CENTRAL COAST ECOFISHERS: Well folks, who owns the Toyota Troopy, parked down town this morning with the beaut ECOfishers bumper sticker attatched to the rear window. Looked great on the tinted glass, I'm told. And attracted a bit of comment from passing shoppers. Tarki
