Justifications for the Draft Zoning at Port Stephens:

And it looks like they might even be taking notes at meetings now (wonders never cease):

The Basis for Zoning document is simple rubbish. It claims a need to protect but does not identify threats or assess the efficacy or the costs (including socioeconomic costs) of the proposed measures. My children would not submit such a shallow work for a school assignment. Very brave of them to actually publish it and expose the nonsense.

Greetings Shane

(Short) Report of 1st Post Draft zoning meeting at Batemans Bay Catalina Club 2nd August 2006

Present - about 120 fishers, 8 local greenies, reporter from WIN news and Westaway, Le Nevez, Westaway and blonde (Alex??) from MPA.

This time they DID take notes of what was said. ?Whats more they had a screen and as points were made theye typed them on a computer and displayed on screen. ?Less of a Q & A session, more of a "give us problems with map session". ?A few people made "statements", a few made good "practica"l fishing spot points. Westaway tried to mislead the meeting twice (What the mayor said when map released, etc. ) he was "vigorously" pulled up on this.

Greens made usual motherhood suggestions about Park. ?When leaving after meeting the Coastwatchers secretary (Edwards) and 1 other were seen leaving with about 50 submission forms. ?It has been suggested that they probably fill these in and pick names out of local phone book - surely not!!

BTW - Richard Tilzey was interviewed at length on ABC South East radio this am.? An excellent interview .. put the aspect of no science in Park selection, zone selection etc. very well.

The MPA have been busy. Looks like somebody has given the order to try and justify the closures BUT it now creates more justification to NOT lock it up.

Proof is now public- After 200 plus years of supposedly flogged to death, overfished and promoted as destroying BIODIVERSITY we have photgraphic evidence of near pristine conditions with plenty of marine life. We should be congratulated not penalised. There is still No explanation or evidence of why we need to be exiled.? ?

I also note that Samantha Hessey is responsible for taking meeting notes at GLPSMP but rumour has it that she either has told them to stick it or she got the flick?Huh.
