Snapper Research: View the latest Snapper research, on our Scientific Papers page.  Qld Fisheries ae reporting their Snapper stocks are stuffed and consequently, have introduced stringent bag limits and legal lengths by way of a fisheries management response. NSW and Qld share the same Snapper stocks! So the writing is already on the wall for NSW - as ECOfishers have been saying for years, in our campaign for a new 35cm legal length.

Scientific studies on the effect of barotrauma on Snapper, clearly reveals that when released, even in deep water, they do survive well. The studies show they are tougher than most other species, scientifically examined. So that is good news and negates the argument for a reduced bag linit, because when released they do survive.

Read all the scientific details on our SCIENTIFIC PAPERS page and enjoy.

Yes. Snapper stocks in NSW are officially classified as "growth overfished." This is an economic issue rather than a conservation one. In Qld Snapper are officially listed as "recruitment overfished," which is a conservation issue and hence their more stringent limits. There are at least five (5) categories of "overfished," which scientists use. Some use seven (7.) And the greenies don't understand any of the classifications!
Mulloway are certainly "recruitment overfished," hence ECOfishers campaign for a 70cm legal length on Mulloway and a bag limit of two (2.) ECOfishers and a host of social fishers are now fishing those lengths and have been for years.
