From ABC on line news today. Why is there never any reference to Recreational fishing compensation?

The Federal Environment Department has warned the Government's plan to increase Australia's marine protected areas is at a "critical juncture".

The Government wants to increase the number of Commonwealth marine reserves, but the Environment Department has delivered a sharp warning about the progress of the plan.

In its advice to the incoming Government, released under Freedom of Information laws, the department says an earlier lack of strategic direction has slowed the policy.

It says more consultation with affected industries is needed, and suggests the Government give early attention to meeting with affected industries and consider the socio-economic impacts of its policy.

It says the program is at a "critical juncture", and funding will need to be provided in next year's budget for it to be completed as it is unrealistic for the planning process to be finished in this financial year.

It also notes that the Government has not yet developed a policy to compensate people like commercial fisherman and land-based businesses who will be displaced by new marine reserves.

Spiney, they a waiting until June 2011 when the Greenies will hold the balance of power in the Senate. Typical Labor stunt! Then they can be assured of having their new bills passed by both houses.
