Following correspondence from Minister for Marine Parks, Carmel Tebbutt to ECOfishers NSW, dated 21/4/09, concerning the status of the greenies Torn Blue Fringe, in which she advises, "the NSW government has indicated it has no plans for additional marine parks at this time...." and subsequent discussions with her, ECOfishers' knows that the Marine Parks Advisory Council, (as distinct from the various Marine Park Advisory Committees) has considered the Torn Blue Fringe. We know for a fact, that at least one member of the Council, (with impeccable scientific qualifications) has absolutely and totally discredited the document. ECOfishers' understanding is, that the document has since been referred back to the Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, with the Council's recommendation. And there it remains on her desk, awaiting action!
What that recommendation is, we are unable to ascertain, for the whole process is shrouded in deep political secrecy. So on behalf of NSW recreational fising families, ECOfishers is now attempting to ascertain where things are at and what the recommendation was etc, through a Freedom of Information Application.
ECOfishers - making people part of the solution.   We will keep you posted!

CEO,
This seems a re-run of what happened with empty oceans empty nets also by Paul Winn. ie A big fat nothing.
Its a bit of a non event. The recomendation you would expect is a rebuttal of the Torn Blue Fringe and its findings.
But the dept will stay quiet until it goes away. They have already got the mileage they wanted out of it.
Even if DECC officially rejects it (unlikely) - does that change anything. Probably not.
I attended a meeting where the minister (Macdonald) personally stated that "there are no government plans for a Marine Park" in August 2006. The park was announced by Debus, Macdonald & Bartlett in November same year.

MARINE PARKS - SCIENTIFIC FRAUD.
Nowhere in the enabling legislation of NSW marine parks, is there any requirement to restrict any forms of fishing in any area! Unless of course, that form of fishing has been specifically and scientifically identified as a threat in that area. And scientists know there is no threat from any form of fishing, currently conducted in NSW.  Yet the fundamental management measure ennacted by the NSW Labor government, is fishing lock-outs and bans, in their marine parks!
Meanwhile, the real threats to our marine bioiversity continue unabated. Only fishing is banned!
No wonder NSW marine parks are known as "environmental duds."

This situation is confirmed by Emeritus Professor of Fisheries, Robert Kearney, in his correspondnce to Ms Lisa Corbyn, Director General of DECC, on 20/5/2010.

The government's Cape Byron Political Park, is due for its perfunctory review next year, 2011. The last time the community wasgiven the opportunity to comment upon the government's Draft Zoning Plan, 6325 individual submissions were recieved from the local community. 6000 of those individual submissions utterly opposed the government's Draft Zoning Plan. 325 green extremists, supported it! And the NSW Labor government sided with the extremists! And added extra so called sanctuary zones!
THAT'S DEMOCRACY AT WORK - NSW LABOR STYLE!  (In bed with a handful of green extremists, for a handful of preference, just to keep their Labor snouts in the trough.)
The best opportunity to "review" the government's Cape Byron Political Park, will be available to ALL NSW voters in March next  year at the state government election. There, EVERY INDIVIDUAL SUBMISSION will count - via the ballot box.  And the Labor Party can't manipulate the result! An opportunity for the electorate, "to keep the bastards honest!"
                                                         DON'T WASTE IT!

MARINE PARKS MOVED TO FISHERIES - at long last! Chalk another victory up to ECOfishers on behalf of all NSW recreational fishers. As ECOfishers have maintained for more than a decade, NSW Fisheries has the necessary legislation, regulations, marine scientists, fisheries biologists, expertise and more importantly, the confidence of the community. The same can't be said for NPWS! The Coalition were quick to honour their undertaking to ECOfishers. Swift and decisive action! Great work Coalition!

NPA MEETING: ECOfishers CEO is to meet with NPA executive officer. Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall at that meeting?
(NPA & NCC etc, are no longer guaranteed government (taxpayers) funding)
