NSW Department of Primary Industries

MF09/107

Mr Phil Ingram
Anglers Action Group
NARRABEEN NSW 2101

(stamped 11 MAY 2009)

Dear Mr Ingram,

Thank you for your letter to the Hon Ian Macdonald MLC, NSW Minister for Primary Industries, regarding annual funding and expenditure on recreational fishing programs by the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI). The Minister has asked me to respond on his behalf.

Estimating Government funding related specifically to each recreational fishing program is difficult as there is not always a clear split between recreational fishing and the overall management of fisheries resources. For example, Fisheries Officers and fisheries scientists undertake a variety of activities, therefore specific recreational fishing expenditure associated with each program would be time consuming and expensive to determine.

The issue of consolidated revenue funding versus recreational Trust funding was discussed at the recent Recreational Fishing Saltwater Trust Expenditure Committee meeting in November 2008. The Director, Fisheries Operations committed to developing a DPI Strategic Plan for Recreational Fishing. Once that plan is developed, the matter will be further discussed through the Advisory Council on Recreational Fishing.

Information on NSW DPI and trust-funded expenditure is available in the NSW DPI annual report and on the NSW DPI website (www.dpi.nsw.gov.au). I can also assure you that NSW DPI accounts for all its expenditure in line with the requirements of the NSW Treasury.

If you wish to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to contact Mr Peter Turnell, Director Fisheries Operations, on telephone 02 9527 8500.

Yours sincerely

If a private citizen was to presented this type of accountancy to the taxation department there would be more questions including the threat of prosecution yet this shonky book keeping is considered sufficient within a government whose ability to handle OUR finances just brushes it aside with letter such as the above

What exactly were the questions that Phil Ingram asked?

What type of accountancy are you referring to, Open Oyster?  Is there more information available on this issue?

They have very real reasons to keep this issue clouded OO, as every rec fisher knows. Just another of the myriad reasons, to re-structure the Ministers ACoRF .
