They're early this year! Spot on Anzac Day. The shrill and plaintive call of the solitary Osprey and a couple of majestic White Breasted Sea Eagles, soaring on high and cruising the coast, are our local environmental indicators of the annual mullet run.
With so much dirty water about and extending kilometres offshore, it will be difficult for these avians to hunt. Not so for the commercial beach haulers. Now we can all look forward to fresh Sea Mullet rich in Omega 3 oils, and ample and cheap supplies of fresh Mullet for bait. Sea Mullet are absolutely delightful on the barbie. Bring it on. A good brisk westerly is all  that is needed now, to drive them all out of the estuaries and north along the coast, on their annual spawning run. Yum!

And with the annual mullet run comes the major predators! It was great to hear further reports from the Richmond over the weekend, of ECOfishers returning juvenile Mulloway of less than 70 cm, back to the river unharmed. Great work ECOfishers!

Fresh local Sea Mullet, rich in those vital Omega 3 oils, are now appearing in your local seafood outlets. And the price is more than reasonable.
