FISHERIES have again requested ECOfishers, to provide details of one of our case studies relating to "best practice guidelines fot helping minimise our impacts on the marine environment." FIsheries want it as a model for other groups to imitate and use. It needs to be closely related to our "ECOfishers Ethics." ECOfishers is quite happy to assist again, with this project, since it is a part of our "ECOfishers Ethics." We have plenty to choose from and including recent ECOfishers initiatives, such as :- 1) ECOfishers Richmond River Rescue. 2) ECOfishers Mulloway 70cm L.L. campaign. 3) ECOfisher Offshore Artificial Reefs initiatives. 4) ECOfishers estuarine water quality monitoring program. 5) ECOfishers initiatives to "bring back from the brink," the endangered East Coast Cod population. etc. 6) ECOfishers agricultural and flood mitigation drains initiatives. Our CEO has agreed to supply Fisheries with our data, (the how, the where, the why etc) so if you have a preference for one initiative over another (and not restricted to the half dozen examples listed,) relay your ideas, through the usual channels, asap. Fisheries want our advice as soon as possible.

Yes. You can include anything you / we, have been involved in, as long as you / we can link it to our "ECOfishers Ethics." No, we don't think it includes ECOfishers - "Green Myths and Legends Exposed & Exploded," just yet, but we wll get the CEO to check.

What is being produced apparently, is a model if you like, or procedural steps, based on ECOfishers Ethics, about the "how, why and where, ECOfishers get things done." It is still in the drafting stages, after another meeting with Fisheries today. Sounds very interesting and may have a lot of potential, for other stakeholder groups, says Fisheries. R.

Now we need some photogenic young thing to grace the ECOfishers "how to," pamphlet/case study. Measurements are important, so are appearances, because the camera doesn't lie. How about a fish? Would the measurements be right for a 1.4m long, Mulloway? KT

We've seen the DRAFT document, done a little bit of minor editing and it looks like being a very useful and relevant pamphlet, for NSW recreational fishers if not nationally. We will post you all a copy, as soon as we are able. As for the photo, we went for a series and they aren't all blondes! Some will really impress, while others are guaranteed to depress. The measurements are what you all will appreciate though, and they are all naked! ECOfishers - leaders in the recreational fishing community! Getting things done, for recreational fishers right across the state. MAKING PEOPLE PART OF THE SOLUTION.

It's a shame this Case Study couldn't have referred to the current Recfish National Code of Practice (2009), which was revised last year and released in January. Recfish developed the first National Code in 1995.

Not a shame at all! Sounds like sour grapes....again! Obviously "ECOfishers Ethics," was preferred by the experts - as an example of best practices and of more relevance, to the experts and recreational fishers everywhere. recfish got a mention in "Related Documents," along with the rest of them. So clearly, "ECOfishers Ethics," was preferred by all. That's why it got the jersey, over and above the rest. And it was developed and designed and updated, by real fishers!

.....and loads and loads of fishing clubs, right across the country had their own "Codes of Conduct," long before recfish invented themselves. I even recall reading and discussing the Burketown Hotel Social Fishing Club's "Code of Conduct," with some of the locals up there, in the pub, on one of our trips to the Territory in 1972! It was abeauty even back in those days. I've still got a copy of it somewhere. Everything was measured by pots of beer. A real frontier town in those days.

Now Len Olyott, currently with recfish, advises in part "With regards to the National Code of Practice, its not Recfish's code and it has had input from a wide range of stakeholders throughout the country......etc" So perhaps JustLookin would be better advised to just keep lookin, instead of just posting! But really, who cares anyway? It is all irrelevant and we don't think it is a shame at all! We didn't make the choice. Fisheries did. And ECOfishers are proud again of another ECOfishers achievement, that will benefit NSW recreational fishers and the fisheries resources. And why wouldn't we be? That's what it is all about! ECOfishers, making people part of the solution.

That's strange, my copy has printed on the cover "an initiative of Recfish Australia".
