Our latest comments concerning the review of the Solitary Islands Marine Park (Coffs Harbour) from colleague Phil Ingram, (AAG) are posted on our Mid North Coast ECOfishers message board. The page is titled SIMP REVIEW. Current betting among Coffs locals is that, pessimistically, the SIMP will go to 30% so called sanctuary zone, as a result of the review. With only about 1000 submissions recieved on the proposed re-zoning, it seems locals there too, are waiting for a chance to change the government. The Opposition has promised "no lock-outs," for family recreational fishers.

The current punting from MPA staff now, is that the increase in sanctuary zone size will go from 12% to 20%. The greedy greenies demanded 30% the community said leave it alone, so the MPA now think 20% is a satisfactory compromise. WHERE IS THE SCIENCE IN THAT?

You can certainly bet on that Murf, but will you get any takers? The NSW government has got to protect those Red Morwong you know. After all, they comprise a massive 0.02% of the NSW recreational harvest. They are so very important.

MORE MARINE PARK MISMANAGEMENT. Since 2001, a disease has been afflicting five species of hard corals around South West Solitary Island. This disease "causes rapidly spreading mortality through a coral colony," says the Marine Park Authority. So how does the MPA manage this problem? They simply ban fishing! Meanwhile, the coral colonies continue to be decimated by this disease, for fishing hasno cause nor impact upon it whatsoever. More mismanagement! No wonder Labor's marine parks are known as environmental duds.

The following letter from ECOfishers management, was published in the Coffs Coast Advocate, on 13 . 8 .2010.
"MARINE PARK MISMANAGEMENT: Since 2001, a disease has been afflicting five (5) species of hard corals around South West Solitary Island in the government's SIMP. This disease "causes rapidly spreading mortality through a coral colony," says the Marine Park Authority. So how does the MPA manage this problem? They simply ban fishing! Meanwhile, the coral colonies continue to be decimated by this disease, for fishing has no cause or impact upon it whatsoever. Mismanagement galore. No wonder Labor's marine parks are known as environmental duds! Ken Thurlow CEO ECOfishers NSW."

ECOFISHERS SCOOP. ECOfishers has been advised this morning (from Sydney) that the SIMP Review will be announced this afternoon and it involves an increase in so called sanctuary zone from[ 12% to 19%! An act of pur bastardry, done by a dying government in their last days of lies, lockouts, scandals and stuff-ups.! This initiative is done by Regulation. Certainly, it can be changed by regulation by a new govenment, for it cannot be justified scientifically, socially, economically or environmentally!
