The nation's leading marine scientists and fisheries biologists, hold an annual Conference each year. They even invite experts from overseas. It is a wonderful event and last year, representatives of the leading recreational fishers' organizations were invited to present papers. Their topic was, "WHAT SHOULD SUSTAINABLE RECREATIONAL FISHERIES LOOK LIKE IN 20 YEARS & HOW DO WE GET THERE FROM HERE?" A Bill Sawynok,( Rec Fish,) presented a doom and gloom perspective.
ECOfishers, who were invited to present, on behalf of NSW recreational fishers, had a totally different perspective.

ECOfishers kindly note.   "....the strongest theme was that anglers needed to be part of the solution..." Our ECOfishers catch-cry has obviously caught on!
Other presentations in this session were made byBen Diggle4s - media; Grahane Williams - game fishing; Liz Baker - NSW Fisheries; Brendan Kelaher - MPA; and Bryan van der Walt - NSW Fisheries.
ECOfishers has recently been sent the document of the entire proceedings, for editing purposes and we will be in a position to post more information, when we have completed editing hundreds of pages.

...".and access plays a dominant role in such forums."  ECOfishers made certain that marine park message, was heard loudly and clearly, by all the scientists. Prof Bob Kearney attended this session also and shook hands with our CEO at the end of our presentation.

Bill Sawynock agrees with the ECOfishers message:

Quote
Recreational fishers have to become part of the solution rather than being seen as the problem.
