SENSATIONALISM? Again we refer readers and browsers to this paragraph from the ECOfishers media release titled, "GREY NURSE SHARKS (& LEOPARDS) DON'T CHANGE THEIR SPOTS." Quote: "This latest population estimate cannot be interpreted as proof of recovery of the Gry Nurse shark population. It is proof positive however, that the population size is considerably greater than that reported by Green groups. Fishers always knew it was. etc." Is this another case of not letting the truth get in the way of a sensational story? (See GNS Figures disputed page and posting of media release on 6.4.09. Reference paragraph 4.)

Apart from a bit of shoddy journalism and not letting the truth get in the way of a somewhat sensational report,(Neither ECOfishers or Ken Thurlow, made any such claim concrning a "Booming GN shark population,") the really concerning issue is that there is another paper in the pipeline, identifying fishing as a key threatening process in the management plan, for the GN shark. No doubt the extremists will again jump on this issue, with additional calls for more restrictions on recreational fishing. So stay tuned, for the next exciting episode in this saga. Rocky.

Folks, see our Mid North coast ECOfishers column, on the page titled Manning Valley Alert & Alarm, for the latest despicable NPWS "stunt," regarding Grey Nurse sharks. Grey Nurses arent part of the NPWS brief. They are responsible for marine mammals and reptiles (Turtles) We can only wonder at the motivation prompting this latest stunt. It is very much akin to the reported 5 Grey Nurses harvested by recrational fishers around Montague Island, (a couple of years ago now,) on a day when no boats put to sea, because of rough weather. That false claim too, still has never been explained or justified, by any government department. And no one has ever apologised for the deliberate lies. That incident too, certainly grabbed the headlines, and especially on the ABC. No apology forth coming from there, either!

A couple of our Grey Nurse sharks passed through Byron Bay again last weekend, on their annual migration to the Gold Coast. They should be there by the time Kevin Rudd's operation to remove the knife from his back, is complete. Now whowould have the gall to do that?
