ECOFISHERS & FISHERIES MANAGEMENT:
Current fisheries management is a combination of input (effort) and output (catch) controls. There is an emphasis on input/effort controls. This style of management is called "demand management." To compliment "demand management," in some fisheries, we also have "supply management." Supply management seeks to ensure there are more fish in the biomass, by minimising the impacts of fishing on brood stocks at spawning time, (eg Australian Bass) AND by artificially boosting fish numbers, by stocking programs (Trout, Mulloway etc).
There is a major shortcoming with some stocking initiatives. Stocking doesn't necessarily guarantee a successful recruitment to the stock, in that particular estuary, stream or fishing site.
ECOfishers recognises this shortcoming and is working to address it.
Successful recruitment depends largely upon the "carrying capacity," of an estuary or fishing site.
ECOfishers recognises and understands we all need to maximise the carrying capacity of our estuaries, streams and fishing sites. THIS INVOLVES IMPROVING FISH HABITAT, IN ANY WAY WE CAN! MORE HABITAT = MORE FISH !
So ECOfishers catch cry is "ECOFISHERS - REBUILDING ECOSYSTEMS.

ECOfishers directors across the state, have agreed to be sponsors of the "fishers for fish habitat," website. ECOfishers have agreed that this website is so important and valuable to recreational fishers, it is worthy of ECOfishers support. So ECOfishers NSW, will become "Pearl Sponsors."

Yes, ECOfishers will fly to Sydney and get a connecting flight to Tamworth. It is expensive but this is what ECOfishers does to support NSW recreatuional fishers and this most important and worthwhile initiative. ECOfishers, as always, will be representing you and your interests for better outcomes for our fisheries resources and NSW recreational fishers.

Good rap from ABC radio this afternoon on Drive Time about the Tamworth Forum. Good to see an ABC journalist not only supporting fishers but is a fisher herself.
