I asked the Solitary Island Marine Park manager what is happening to the 5 year review. Submissions closed after two months in June 2008. Nine months later and nothing has happened. It is still in stage two, producing a review report. The review report then goes to the advisory committee, the supposed group representing stakeholders but selected by MPA. The Committee then reports to the Minister, stage 3. The minister then decides if a new draft zoning plan needs to be presented back for public comment or the zoning stays as it is. All for a alledged handfull of Red Mowong and some crabs. I would like to know what the cost of the five year review is to date?  Anyone have a guess?

They will no sooner finish this one, and they will have to start the next 5-year review!  It shouldn't be that hard; based on the science, it is too early to say if there is any benefit.  Ergo, leave it alone  Huh

The predictions from Coffs Harbour are that it will go to 30% sanctuary zone - just what the MPA and greenies wanted!

In future, reviews of government marine parks' Zoning Plans, will only be done on a ten year cycle. Labor changed the regulations last year!   Some of us may not live long enough to see that happen! So the next election is very important!

Minister Macdonald (Fisheries) is also the Minister for Energy. His tactic for years has been to ignore the bush and now he treats our city cousins like mushrooms - keeping them in the dark, with a series of strategic blackouts!
