Friend of ECOfishers and scientific colleague, Dr Peter Saenger, now  member of the NSW Marine Parks Advisory Council, advises ECOfishers, the Council considered the extreme greens' Torn Blue Fringe, at their meeting in Sydney on March 24th. The scientific members of the Council "slammed and canned," the NPA's document. Just like ECOfishers did. This isn't the end of the issue however. The Advisory Council is just that - an advisory group. The Labor government is not bound to and does not necessarily, take its advice.
Apparently there are some very wounded greenies on the Council, who are now regrouping and preparing to take their  lobbying to personal levels with their minister, (deputy premier Tebbutt) and premier. Wouldn't they now!

Again, ECOfishers can proudly and justifably say, "We told you so!"

Seems the Torn Blue Fringe has backfired badly on the NPA!  Reminds me of the "Empty Oceans, Empty Nets" report, which was also "blown out of the water" by facts and science.

We bet acorf's Stinker Clark, squirmed and wriggled with total discomfort, during the scientific debate at the Marine Park Advisory Council meeting last week. To have real marine  scientists and real fisheries biologists, destroy his total support for government marine parks must have been embarrassing in the extreme, especially publicly! And who appointed Stinker Clark to that committee? The Labor minister for fisheries did! He was appointed to represent NSW recreational fishers, as long as he promoted the gocvernment line. How embarrassing for him now!

And ECOfishers friend and scientific colleague, Dr Peter Saenger, will probably be well and truly rapped over the knuckles, by the Marine Park Authority. for speaking out publicly. They actually sack people from their committees, for being truthful in the public domain. Will Peter care? Not one little bit. Science before spin.

A much younger Bob Kearney when he was with NSW Fisheries and another very successful fisheries conference, with over 300 commercial and recreational delegates. The good old days!
And Ballina is still an ideal place for fishers to meet. See our "FISHERS for FISH HABITAT FORUM," page under our Northern Rivers ECOfishers section, planned for June this year.

Is that the CEO in the middle? Boy, what a mo! I thought he had a beard. And where is that great photo Fisheries Minister Macdonald, had taken with the CEO, a few  years ago, at another ECOfishers conference? It's a beauty.

We think we know the one you mean. Minister Macdonald and CEO together, with an ECOfishers placard?  Everyone is talking about ECOfishers. Why wouldn't they be? We make people part of the solution!

ECOfishers, we've sent this quote from Kearney, to the NPA. We just love it and we haven't heard from them yet about our Sydney debate - anywhere, anytime.
"A fundamental flaw in Winn's whole approach is exposed by his acknowledgement that pollution and habitat altertion, are the first two of his identified three causes of the problem and yet he proposes to do nothing about them. Instead he advocates for more fishing closures, usually under the conveniently misleading title of 'sanctuaries' or 'protected areas.'"
Professor Kearney is looking forward to meeting with and answering questions from the recreational fishers representatives at our ECOfishers "UNITY SUMMIT - a partnership of stakeholders," on Saturday May 23rd.
And all rec fisher representatives, are looking forward to meeting with Prof Kearney and discussing his critique of the "Torn Blue Fringe," with him. Exciting times folks, for recreational fishers and their representatives.

ECOfishers, keep quoting from all Kearney's papers. Already they are considered the "bible," for NSW recreational fishers.

Prof Kearney's scientific critique of the Torn Blue Fringe is compulsory reading for ALL ECOfishers. It is readily available on our site.
