Now surely folks, those comments and misinformation from the NPA, are worthy of an ECOfisher response or two? Remember, our aim is to refute the greenies message with facts and science, while at the same time, informing the community of the reality. So kindly respond to editor.mrtimes@ruralpress.com with your letters to the editor. It should be fun!

To date we've not had any response from the extreme green NPA to our challenge to debate their Torn Blue Fringe, anywhere, anytime. Are they pretending they don't follow our website? ECOfishers is prepared to take the mountain to them and fill the venue with hundreds of angry NSW recreational fishers.

Fishers issue challenge
HELEN MANUSU
Manning River Times
27/03/2009 8:11:00 AM

THE Manning's fishing community has challenged the National Parks Association to meet face-to-face in Taree and debate the pros and cons of a new marine park from Crowdy Head to Lake Cathie.

The recreational fishers would like to see the debate take place in Manning Entertainment Centre, which they believe they could easily fill.

Chairman of The Fishing Party, Bob Smith of Harrington, yesterday called on Greater Taree City Council to also enter the debate, and believes council should offer its 500-seat entertainment centre free of charge and as a neutral venue.

"Imagine the economic loss and public outcry if fishing was denied at either Crowdy Head or any of our local beaches, so council should be involved," Mr Smith said.

"We want to invite and challenge the National Parks Association to hold an open public meeting and/or a debate to enlighten the community as to their 'facts' and give the community and businesses a chance to publicly debate the issue with them."

Mr Smith said the community particularly wants answers to the questions regarding no fishing zones which would be created under a marine park plan.

The Fishing Party has teamed up with the Harrington Community Action Group in making the call to the National Parks Association.

"We want the NPA to present their so-called scientific facts in regard to their marine park 'lock out family fishers' campaign," Mr Smith said.

"We want to hear all the details of the five more no fishing zones they want established in New South Wales."

Mr Smith said he personally hoped that Mr John Perkins, secretary of the 'Friends of Durras' at Batemans Bay would visit Taree to take part in the debate, "so that he can convince the 'locals' of what a good idea the NPA have in banning family fishing".

Mr Perkins claimed in a letter to the editor of the Times (Fri-Sat March 20-21) that Mr Smith was "highly misleading" about the dire consequences marine parks have on coastal communities.

He said tourism research showed "visitors love the Bateman's Marine Park".

"So Mr Perkins should take part in the debate," he said.

"Mr Perkins confuses recreational fishing with commercial fishing, and again fails to address and highlight the real threats to marine biodiversity ? just as the Marine Park Authority and the NSW Labor Government have avoided the issue.

"I guarantee if we were to have a debate at the Manning Entertainment Centre, we would have in attendance far more than the half dozen NPA supporters."

Eight hundred people attended a community meeting called by the fishing and business fraternity at Laurieton earlier this month, to discuss the newest marine park threat.

This followed an earlier turnout of more than 600 at a similar meeting at South West Rocks.

Mr Smith said the time is now right for the people of the Manning to air their views.

The ECOfishers challenge is for "anywhere, anytime," but  preferably Sydney. The Entertainment Centre in Taree isn't made available free. Anyway, it's not big enough for ECOfishers purposes. We 'd already checked that out.

.....and the NPA weren't coming to Taree! That's quite clear, so the mountain was going to Mohommed, except Mohommed wasn't available!

We just love that "Zombie science!" Perhaps Zombie rhetoric would be more appropriate because it is not science at all. Prof Jon Jenkins used to refer to it as "Voodoo science," and in the Parliament too.
