Mr Phillip Ingram
President
Anglers Action Group
PB Box 630
NARRABEEN NSW 2101

Dear Mr Ingram

I refer to your letter of 26 November 2008 to the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment, the Hon Carmel Tebbutt, regarding an independent review of NSW Marine Parks. Your letter has been referred to the Department of Environment and Climate Change for response, and I apologise for the delay in replying.

The Marine Parks Authority has asked the Marine Parks Advisory Council to lead a review of the science of marine parks, and the process to establish a Marine Parks Science Panel to undertake the review and develop Terms of Reference, is underway.

The Panel will review both the Strategic Framework for the Evaluation and Monitoring of Marine Parks in NSW and the NSW Marine Parks Strategic Plan 2005-2010. These documents are both publicly available on the Marine Parks Authority website at www.mpa.nsw.gov.au.

The timing of the review is dependent on the availability of Panel members. However, it is expected to commence in the first half of 2009.

Thank you for raising the matter. If you require further information, please contact Mr Adrian Toovey, DECC?s Manager, Aquatic Protected Areas, by telephoning 9585 6589.

Yours sincerely

Michael Wright

Spot on ACT Angler! The Labor fox in charge of the Labor chook yard, (or should that be the Labor "foul" yard.) The MPA reviewing their own documentation - how crooked is that? Looks like another chookyard whitewash coming up! And we are still being hoodwinked! When will Emeritus Professor Bob Kearney, get a gernsey in this sad saga? Why does the NSW government continue to treat the fishing community like second class citizens?

.....and the Greens are already lobbying Labor's Carmel Tebbutt, for multiple positions (plural) and representation on their Marine Parks Scientific Panel.

It is to be hoped representative fishing groups, both commercial and recreational, have the opportunity to make submissions to this panel. It would be considered totally irrelevant if we weren't. ECOfishers will certainly be making representations, with a weighty and lengthy document.
