A number of enquiries to ECOfishers by NSW recreational family fishers asks why does that recfish group claim to be a peak representative body for recreational fishers when none of the enquiring clubs or grass roots fishers have ever had the opportunity to vote for it/them? They make the point that they aren't "representative," unless they've been voted for, by the rec fishers at large. Apart from never having heard of this group before, they are offended that an unrepresentative group makes such a claim. As Dr Richard put it, "another fallacious claim." And we did enjoy the email on Monday, from a member out west, who bemoans the fact that these "climate change scaremongers ought just move out west if they are truly worried and stop ramming their fears down the throats of others. Out here," he says,"we could do with a few more people and they need have no fear of rising sea levels." Yes, if these people are truly worried, why they don't just pack up and move? Life is all about choices. Reminds us of the scaremongering tactics of the preservationists about saving the forests. "We are destroying the only lungs of the planet," they wailed. That totally ignored the facts and reality that more than 70% of the earths surface is water and the phytoplankton produces much more oxygen and absorbs much more carbon dioxide than the world's forest ever could. And some people actually believed them!

One of the enquiries of ECOfishers today, was from a junior ECOfisher in Sydney. He wanted to know what old retired ECOfishers do. This is what we told him. "Well, a lot of us have scientific and biological backgrounds. And we are all real conservationists. "Conservation through sustainable use," is our slogan and trade mark. So we are very good at re-using beer, wine and spirits and turning it into urine. Talk to your dad about it. He knows the ECOfisher recipe exactly. Is there anything we missed?

Yes! We are advised that it is also "secret mens' business!" WELCOME TO YOU ALL ANYWAY - We do hope you can contribute to the cause in a meaningful and positive way! THE CAUSE: To give NSW recreational fishing families, fair and equitable access to government marine parks. There are no scientific, environmental, social or economic reasons to exclude family recreational fishers from ANY zone of any government marine park. So why are we being discriminated against? Why are we being treated like second class citizens? The answers we been given so far, are absolutely insulting to NSW recreational fishers. Labor's Bob Debus said they "were to protect the whales, turtles, dolphins (and as an after thought algae!!!) Labor's Verity Firth said Labor had to lock-up long stretches of exposed and open beaches to protect the spawning sites of Yellow Fin Bream and the pipi and beachworm resources!!! (Every ECOfisher knows Yellow Fin Bream spawn at the mouths of estuaries! And pipi and beachworm resources will never be under any threat of being over-harvested because ALL harvesting has to be done manually) Thirdly Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore says government marine parks are necessary to protect the habitat of and the Woody Sea Dragon!!! As colleague Phil Ingram (AAG,) pointed out to the Lord Mayor, there is no such animal as a Woody Sea Dragon! So she may as well be protecting the mythical mermaids. So folks, that's our marine park campaign, on your behalf. And the way the extreme green NPA are going, there could be a government marine park on your doorstep in the very near future, unless together, we rip-up that "Blue Fringe." WON'T YOU JOIN US? WE NEED YOU TO HELP US, HELP YOU. FOR IF WE ALL DO NOTHING, THEN NOTHING WILL CHANGE. Conservation thru' sustainable use . Making people part of the solution, is our slogan Recreational fishing families are not part of the problem We are part of the solution! So join us today and help make a difference! Contact our Treasurer at P.O. Box 68 Hastings Point NSW 2489 for further enquiries and details. We'd love to hear from you.

And a huge "What's bitin?" welcome to the recreational fishing families from Iluka at the mouth of the mighty Clarence River - Big River Country! "What's bitin," you asked? Bundjalung Marine Park, that's what! See our Northern Rivers ECOfishers page, for more data.

ECOfishers - THE FUTURE IS HERE! Right Here! Right Now!
Join ECOfishers and become part of the solution, not a part of the problem ECOfishers, Conservation thru' sustainable use. Making people part of the solution!
A very warm welcome aboard, to the Coffs Coast Advocate. A great place to have lunch when passing thru' or visiting Coffs, is the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Club. ECOfishers do and they love it! Yes, Coffs Harbour Deep Sea CLub is a member of ECOfishers, all 5000 of them!

MANNING VALLEY recreational fishing families, WELCOME ABOARD! Crowdy to Lake Cathie is earmarked for another government / green marine park. Significantly, all National Parks and Nature Reserves, that front an estuary, beach, or rock platform AUTOMATICALLY become sanctuary zones! No science, no negotiations, no ifs, no buts, no nothing! It is simply DECC and MPA policy! So what have you got to lose? PLENTY! So called sanctuary zones are strictly no-take. Not a shell, not a pebble, not even a piece of driftwood can be removed from a government sanctuary zone. And certainly no harvesting. The penalty for picking up a pebble or shell and removing it from a so called sanctuary zone - $500! No wonder the community loves government marine parks!

Yes! We need you to help us, help you! For if we all do nothing, then nothing will change. That simply means more marine parks and more sanctuary zones, that unnecessarily exclude family recreational fishers.
