Three shark attacks in two days. Crikey! One at Fingal NSW, one in Tasmania and the third at Windang NSW today. Those pesky Grey Nurse sharks, they are everywhere.

Couldn't be the Grey Nurse Shark. 0f 9843 sharks sighted to date by the Australian Underwater Federation only 1098 were Grey Nurse Sharks. Considering only 20 Great Whites were sighted by divers and fishers, comparing these figures makes you wonder how endangered the Grey Nurse Sharks really are? Recorded sightings of Wobbegong (1526) and Port Jackson (1773) Seeing there are more wobbegongs around shouldn't we blame them for all unidentified shark attacks? Just don't like pearly whites of whalers, bull and great whites and of course tigers. Remember the bedtime story that quoted "what big jaws you have Grandma."

NSW Fisheries marine scientists and fisheries biologists have tonight confirmed the attack on the surfer (shouldn't that be sufferer?) at Fingal Head NSW, was from a 3.5 m Great White. This information was communicated to ECOfishers by Fisheries only an hour ago. It makes a mockery of the Qld "shark expert," from Seaworld Qld, a Trevor Long, who has been telling the media all day it was most certainly a Bull shark. Again let ECOfishers repeat the age old adage for all fishers and one particular poster, on this site, - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! Now does anyone else find it curious that fishers who use the marine environment and are literally in or on the water every day, frequently see many sharks. Yet the green extremists from the NCC and the NPA etc, who don't use our marine environment and are rarely on the water, if ever, claim there are fewer and fewer sharks in our marine environment. How the hell would they know??? They are always so pessimistic and use alarming emotional rhetoric to frighten the community. Do they really want us living in caves, eating tofu and cooking on an open fire. Oops, no that wouldn't be right. They wouldn't want us to us trees for our fire fuel. Isn't it time the community stood up to these extremists and doomsayers?

The little knowledge I have on the one in Lake Illawarra said it was a bull shark too. Here is the news story from 8pm last night: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,,24900632-2,00.html

Local Radio reports in Port Stephens yesterday warned of a 3 metre white shark which has been seen for 3 days feeding off the north head of the entrance, a few weeks ago my two young nephews were spear fishing off north head when a 3 metre white appeared and stole one young fellows catch, the shark then proceeded to sit there just metres away from him looking at him probably deciding whether to eat him or not, having seen this from the boat my brother zoomed up and dragged him out of the water. Scary stuff. The increasing abundance of white sharks in this area could be attributed to the explosion of the numbers of Salmon in the Stockton bight since commercial harvesting of salmon was banned, Stockton bight is a feeding ground for juvenile whites, more Salmon, more whites.

ATC Anglers posting just highlights the Radical Greens standing of wild life over humans mythology. The latest indulgence is that the shark attacks are happening because fishers have caught all their food source. The radical greens want it both ways firstly sharks are endangered caught by those terrible fishers and then the fishers have taken all their food source. If sharks are endangered their food requirements must also have declined. Facts presented tend to show shark netting protect surfing beaches.

FACT: No shark fatalities on Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sydney or Wollongong beaches ever since shark meshing was employed. They even catch Grey Nurse sharks!
