Capital Works & Environmental Officer.
Byron Shire Council
Mullumbimby NSW 2482.

Dear Michael,            Re; Bangalow Sewage Treatment Plant
                                         Maori Creek.

ECOfishers NSW members, have expressed concerns for a number of years, at the badly degrade condition of Maori Creek. This tributary flows into Byron Creek, which in turn joins Wilsons’ Creek, which is a highly popular site for our many Northern Rivers members.

Hence we are delighted at Councils initiative, to gradually improve and rehabilitate the riparian zone, provide stock proof fencing, revegetate and manage the prolific weeds, thereby enhancing the water quality of all streams.

Maori and Byron Creeks are “refuge areas,” for the iconic Australian Bass, which are highly prized by local communities as sport fish.

ECOfishers members reintroduced the endangered East Coast Cod, to Wilsons’ Creek over a decade ago now. All and any measures Council may take, to improve the water quality of Maori Creek, will help ensure the survival of this endangered species.

ECOfishers commends and congratulates Council, on this vital initiative. We are delighted to be able to support it financially.Yours faithfully,
