Dear Mr Cork,
ECOfishers NSW, (the voice of recreational fishers,) enthusiastically supports the Ballina Marine Discovery Centre’s proposal, to promote the sustainable and ethical use of the marine environment, among northern rivers school students and the community.
Your proposed static and interactive displays are both unique in NSW and highly commendable.
The Ballina Marine Discovery Centre is an award winning project and program at Ballina High School. It is the focal point of primary and secondary education about the marine environment, on the northern rivers of NSW. The Centre is highly regarded and valued by local communities for it is truly a community resource and asset.
With a wonderful mix of subtropical and temperate biodiversity, from estuarine, rock platform, open beaches, and offshore waters and recreational fishing being a widely practised pursuit, your proposal will address the established need for sustainable and ethical fishing practices among the region’s school students and the community.
ECOfishers NSW, highly commends your proposal. It is unique, essential and has enviable scientific, environmental, social, economic and practical outcomes. It is certainly worthy of our support, which shall be forthcoming.
Ken Thurlow.
CEO ECOfishers NSW.
